  • Radosław Baszuk (Poland)

    Radosław Baszuk is an attorney and member of the Warsaw Bar Association. He is the author of publications on criminal law, procedure and disciplinary liability. In the years 2007-2016, he was a judge of the Disciplinary Court of the Warsaw Bar Association and the Supreme Disciplinary Court of the Bar.

    He is a Partner at the law firm Baszuk Czernicka Baszuk Adwokacka Spółka Partnerska and a participant in the Citizens RP (Obywatele RP) civic movement in defense of democracy and the rule of law in Poland.

  • Bea Bodrogi (Hungary)

    Bea Bodrogi is a human rights lawyer, trainer and researcher. She obtained her LLM in 2000 from the London School of Economics (LSE) with a specialization in human rights, discrimination and alternative dispute resolution. She manages various international and local projects in the field of freedom of expression and media law. Bodrogi also provides legal representation to NGOs, journalists, persons who shape public opinion and anyone whose freedom of expression has been unjustifiably limited. Currently she works as lawyer at three independent media outlets in Hungary: the independent news siteTelex, the Direkt36 Investigative Journalism Center, and Radio Free Europe.

    She also contributes to research projects, conducts training sessions, compiles studies and country reports for international organizations, such as Article 19, the International Press Institute (IPI), and the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA). Her most recent paper tackles the SLAPP situation in Hungary. She is a member of the Expert group against SLAPP of the European Commission.

  • Nadine Dinig (Germany)

    Nadine Dinig is an independent lawyer based in Frankfurt am Main, specializing in press and media & competition and trademark law. She holds a doctorate from the University of Bremen and is a member of the Executive Committee of the German Bar Association Working Group on Intellectual Property and Media.

    Nadine regularly represents media outlets and activists facing lawsuits that target critical speech and is one of the country's experts on the subject, co-leading our PATFox anti-SLAPP training in Germany. In addition to her role at the PATFox Germany trainings, she is organizing a Panel Discussion on SLAPPs at the German Bar Association in September, next to several other appearances for PATFox, e.g. at the project meeting at the European Parliament in Brussels in February 2022. Also, Nadine published, together with Jasper Prigge, an article on the EU draft directive against SLAPPs in the legal professional journal IP Rechtsberater.

  • Theodoros Economou (Cyprus)

    Theodoros Economou is a lawyer registered in Cyprus. He holds an LLB Law (HONS) degree and completed his vocational training at Antis Triantafyllides & Sons LLC after interning at the Court of the European Union.

    Admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2014, Theodoros has extensive experience in Litigation, Commercial Law, Banking and Finance, Defamation Law etc. Theodoros has successfully handled cases in various courts including several defamation cases.

  • Karolina Gierdal (Poland)

    Karolina Gierdal has been a practicing lawyer since 2017. She is a specialist in anti-discrimination law and human rights and a defender of activists and social activists.

    From 2018 to 2021, Karolina coordinated the legal team of the Campaign Against Homophobia association, and since 2021, she has been coordinating the legal team of the Lambda Warsaw Association. She has been a member of the anti-repression collective SZPIL(A) since 2020 and is a member of the Legal Advocates for Pro Choice collective.

    Karolina is the third-place winner in the Rising Stars Lawyers - leaders of tomorrow 2020 competition. That same year, the Women's Affairs Committee at the Supreme Bar Council awarded her the title of Lawyer of the Year. She is Chair of the Human Rights Commission at the Warsaw Regional Bar Association and a member of the Equal Treatment Team of the Supreme Bar Council.

  • Diana Olivia Hatneanu (Romania)

    Diana Olivia Hatneanu is a lawyer with extensive experience before national courts and the European Court of Human Rights, representing individuals, NGOs and media institutions. She is also a member of the European Commission Expert Group Against SLAPP in a personal capacity (practitioner).

    She provides legal advice on human rights, freedom of expression and access to information, data protection, institutional transparency, discrimination, advocacy and law reform.

    She has produced reports on fundamental rights issues at the request of FRA (to date “Rehabilitation and mutual recognition – practice concerning EU law on transfer of persons sentenced or awaiting trial” – country report Romania 2015, “Biometric data in large EU IT-systems in the areas of borders, visa and asylum – fundamental rights implications” – country report Romania 2015; “Criminal Procedural Rights” – country report Romania 2018; Impact of EU Terrorism Directive – country report Romania 2020).

  • Vanja Juric (Croatia)

    Vanja Jurić is a Croatian attorney with an independent law practice since 2011. She graduated from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb in 2007, after which she continued her education at the Faculty of Political Sciences, in the Advanced Master of European Studies program. In 2017, she completed the Harvard Law School course CopyrightX.

    In addition to practicing law, Vanja is a member of the European Commission's expert group for SLAPP lawsuits and one of the founders and lawyers of the Center for the Protection of Freedom of Expression of the Croatian Journalists' Association. In her work, in addition to other branches of law, she is particularly engaged in issues of media law, freedom of expression and intellectual property rights.

  • Pawel Knut (Poland)

    Pawel Knut is an attorney and partner at Knut Mazurczak Adwokaci, law firm based in Warsaw, Poland. He obtained his law degree from Warsaw University. He has over 12 years of experience in the provision of legal assistance in cases related to discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, both before national and international judicial authorities. He has also collaborated with several national and international non-governmental organizations specializing in human rights protection.

    Apart from practicing law, Pawel is also a researcher focusing on counteracting the phenomenon of hate speech and an author and of several publications on the legal protection of LGBT persons in Poland.

  • Tomáš Langer (Slovakia)

    Tomáš is an attorney in Bratislava, capitol of the Slovak Republic. He is a counsel in MCL law firm, local mid-size company focusing, inter alia, on media law and litigation. Tomas gained his law degree JUDr. (Doctor of Laws) in Kosice, Slovakia. He also studied European law in Gent University in Belgium, where he received the title Master of Laws (LL.M.).

    Tomas has been specializing over 15 years in litigation, legal matters concerning intellectual property, media, advertising, real estate and company law. Tomas has represented prominent media clients including largest Slovak television broadcaster and largest Slovak publishing house in more than 100 cases concerning protection of personality rights and protection of reputation and good name of legal entities.

    He also defends clients against high-profile reputational attacks in online media outlets and social media, as well as representing them in criminal proceedings in the position of injured parties.

  • Krzysztof Pluta (Poland)

    An attorney-at-law and partner at Jakubowski Pluta and Partners, Krzysztof Pluta is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Warsaw and undertook postgraduate studies in copyright, press and Internet law at Jagiellonian University.

    Krzysztof Pluta acts as iegal representative in many processes in the field of press law, protection of personal rights and copyright. He is actively involved in defending and strengthening freedom of speech, press and media in Poland and abroad.

  • Jasper Prigge (Germany)

    Jasper Prigge is an independent lawyer based in Düsseldorf, specializing in the domains of copyright, media, information and IT law. He holds a doctorate from the University of Düsseldorf and a LL.M. from the University of Oldenburg. Jasper is member of the German Bar Association Working Groups on Intellectual Property and Media and on IT law, next to several other memberships at lawyers associations and the union ver.di.

    Jasper regularly represents media outlets and activists facing lawsuits that target critical speech and is one of the country's experts on the subject, co-leading our PATFox anti-SLAPP training in Germany. He takes on the role as PATFox trainer twice in 2023, and also attended the ccc conference 2022 with a talk on SLAPPs. Also, Jasper published, together with Nadine Dinig, an article on the EU draft directive against SLAPPs in the legal professional journal IP Rechtsberater.

  • Alessia Schiavon (Spain)

    Alessia Schiavon ix Executive Director of Fundación Internacional Baltasar Garzón (FIBGAR), a lawyer, criminology and human rights expert, rule of law and human rights project manager, and Coordinator of the project Pioneering anti-SLAPP Training for Freedom of Expression (PATFox).

    Alessia holds a PhD in Law from the University of Padua. She also has a Master's degree in cooperation, conflict and negotiation dynamics in international relations and diplomacy, Alfonso X El Sabio University, United Nations University for Peace, Berg Institute. Expert in Organised Crime and Security, UNED. Degree in Legal Sciences, University of Padua. Specialised in Criminology, CIELS International.

  • Zlatka Stefanova (Bulgaria)

    Zlatka Stefanova is a Partner at Dokovska, Atanasov, and Partners law firm. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and is a member of the Sofia Bar Council.

    Zlatka practices in the field of criminal law and criminal procedure and is an active participant in the activities of the Bulgarian Lawyers for Human Rights Foundation.

    She is also a emporary lecturer to the candidates for junior judges at the National Institute of Justice on the topic of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights as a source on the application of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

  • Jasna Zakonjšek (Slovenia)

    In 2012 attorney at law Mag. Emil Zakonjšek and attorney at law Jasna Zakonjšek founded Law Firm Zakonjšek, d.o.o. The Law Firm Zakonjšek, d.o.o. specializes in criminal, media, civil and labor law.

  • Michael Zammit Maempel (Malta)

    Michael Zammit Maempel is a lawyer practicing in media and technology law. He is a graduate of the University of Malta and of Queen Mary University of London, where he specialised in Computers and Communications Law.

    Over the years he has acted successfully in a number of leading free expression cases, both in Malta and before the European Court of Human Rights, and still advises one of Malta’s leading news and journalism portals. After several years working with one of Malta’s top tier firms, he now owns and operates his own niche legal practice which specialises in media, technology and intellectual property.
